@SheKilda - The Davitt Awards 2011

The Davitt Awards for 2011 will be held during the SheKilda Convention and is proudly brought to you by 13th Street  (Buy your tickets for the night)

Sisters in Crime Australia is proud to sponsor the national crime writing award - The Davitts - awarded for the best crime books by Australian women. There are four award categories:
  • The Davitt (Adult Fiction)
  • The Davitt (Children's/Young Adult Fiction)
  • The Davitt (True Crime)
  • The Davitt (Readers Choice), as voted by members of Sisters in Crime.

Sisters in Crime Australia named the award The Davitt in honour of Ellen Davitt (1812-1879) who wrote Australia’s first mystery novel, Force and Fraud in 1865. Her achievement is extraordinary when it is considered that Wilke’s Collins’ The Woman in White, generally regarded as the first full-length mystery novel, was published only in 1860. Force and Fraud was serialised in the Australian Journal, starting with its very first issue. It begins with a murder and ends with its solution, with red herrings, blackmail, and a dramatic court scene in between.

Presented by Shamini Flint, Singapore-based author of The Inspector Singh Investigates series.

Prior to the award presentations, Shamini Flint will talk to Professor Sue Turnbull about her life in crime and much much more.
Held at the Celtic Club, 316-320 Queen Street, Melbourne - Disabled access available.
